Maintaining Your Fitness Routine While You Travel
Travel, for business or pleasure, always presents a challenge to my clients’ regular fitness routine. It means they’ll be out of their normal environments and away from their gyms, out of their daily routines, and likely unable to control exactly what, where, and when they eat. All these changing components can seem daunting, but really, departures from our normal routine are…normal! Handling these changes well can actually further our fitness and enhance the healthy lifestyle we all desire.
Today I want to focus on the exercise component of traveling. Obviously, if you are staying at a hotel that offers gym usage to its guests, your life just got a whole lot easier! Schedule permitting, you will likely be able to continue your normal exercise routine without interruption. When traveling for a previous job, Elise would follow our Express Plan in the evenings to blow off steam from the day and maintain her exercise schedule.
Depending on the hotel at which you stay, you may even be able to take advantage of a complimentary fitness package. In an effort to draw busy travelers through their doors, many hotels have started offering fitness services to guests – everything from complimentary laundry service for sweaty gym clothes to workout apparel delivered to your room.
If you are staying somewhere without a gym, however, you can still workout in the comfort of your room. If you’re traveling with our Express Plan, all you’ll need is a simple resistance band to complete all the movements and get in a great workout. To squeeze in some cardio, I always recommend running the hotel stairs – just make sure to take the elevator down to avoid soreness the following day. :) Be fit, be blessed!
